Submit Your Resume When You Think and Feel You Are Qualified, After Your Review

Submit that resume after “You” decide you are qualified; meet the requirements and have the qualifications. Often times we see job orders or requisitions that list requirements for experience we have but not as presented such as BIG 5, years of experience in a particular industry or technology by a specific vendor, etc.

I had two cases where I was told by a head hunter and third party not to submit because I did not have Big 5 experience, etc. One, I had a career that included extensive system, software (including applications), and firmware consulting and experience and secondly, I had a successful track record managing a variety of technologies in various industries, including the industry and technology that was identified. Remember that the BIG 5 initially did auditing and consulting for accounting, finance and management while at the same there were organizations in the aerospace and DOD environments that were conducting consulting in system and software and managing very successful project/programs with best practices. And much of the best practice processes that are used in the commercial IT industry started where? Yes, in the aerospace and DOD environments. My more than 20 years of experience was equally in the Aerospace, DOD, and the “commercial” IT industry. (What’s good about the present and the future of IT is that these organizations are collaborating to develop standards.)

I submitted resumes to both opportunities and several others. I was recently made offers by both (the process to getting employed or to obtain a contract is definitely longer) but did not accept because I recently have taken two other projects in a non-IT industry but requires my experience as an IT program/project manager, educator, in education and community outreach programs. In essence, I am using my entire skill sets. So, when there are opportunities, evaluate your background and experience to determine if “you” meet the requirements.
