Most schools have computers, but if by chance yours does not, hopefully there is one in your home. Either way here are some suggestions and recommendations.
- Become, if you\’re not, computer literate, involved to learn to use a computer
- Talk to your counselor/advisor, technical/computer teachers, and others about careers in Information Technology
- Inquire about 2-4 year College, Technical schools and computer learning centers (e.g., Chubbs, CLC)
- Research in library, on the internet, and at places like Barnes and Nobles and other book stores about careers in IT, Computer Science, and System/Software Engineering
- Read books on the areas identified for you. Read computer and technology related books, and also books on business, management, communications, e-business, etc. IT is an ever changing and expanding industry.
- Buy a computer book(s) on terminology and acronyms
- Enter a program: Co-op, Intern, summer program, etc.
- Research companies (IT companies/potential employers)
- Read the classified sections of newspapers
- Stay on top of the internet/web (surfing and research)
- Consider taking, to develop soft skills, public speaking (join speakers bureau or organizations), speech classes, writing and how- to-research classes and seminars
- As you acquire the knowledge and/or experience get some certifications in the technology or technologies you are interested in
